Established since the 17th century, Domaines Chermette is a family-run winery located in the southern Beaujolais region of the Rhône. Once known as Domaine du Vissoux, the winery was taken over in 1982 by Pierre-Marie Chermette, who committed to controlling the entire wine-making process, from vine cultivation to marketing. His son, Jean-Etienne Chermette, later joined the estate in 2017, contributing to vinicultural work, winemaking, and marketing. The estate was subsequently renamed Domaines Chermette, reflecting its expansion beyond Vissoux.
The Chermette family embraces a minimalist intervention approach, respecting the terroir to produce authentic, high-quality wines. Their product range includes white, rosé, and red Beaujolais; specific crus; Crémants de Bourgogne; and artisanal fruit creams. The family practices sustainable agriculture, manual harvesting, and traditional Beaujolais vinification without chaptalization or yeast. Since 2018, their long-standing environmental efforts have been recognized with an HVE3 certification.
The winemaking process at Domaines Chermette involves semi-carbonic maceration, where whole, non-destemmed clusters are saturated with carbon dioxide, and undergo maceration and “pumping over” to bring color and structure to the wine. Aging occurs in stainless steel tanks or old oak casks, depending on the wine. These meticulous methods ensure the full expression of the terroir in each cuvée.
