Château de la Bonnelière, under the stewardship of the Plouzeau family, has reclaimed its noble heritage as a vineyard and producer of exceptional wines. In 1976, Pierre Plouzeau acquired the, renovating the ancient castle and replanting the vineyards. The modern winery was established in 1989, coinciding with the birth of the “Chinon Château de la Bonnelière” wine. Taking the reins in 1999, Pierre’s son, Marc, further developed the estate, transitioning it to organic farming and refining the cellar.
The 20-hectare vineyard is divided into three distinct soil types: gravel, clay-limestone, and flint clay. Each imparts unique characteristics to the wines. “Les Cornuelles” features 55-year-old vines on “tuf,” while “Les Clos de Roches” is recognized as one of the finest terroirs on the Left Bank of Chinon. This region, steeped in historical significance and favored by a favorable microclimate, holds immense potential and hidden treasures.
With a commitment to organic farming, Marc Plouzeau seeks to express the individuality of each terroir through his cuvées. The wines are crafted without chemical yeasts, chaptalization, or additives, allowing the grapes to naturally reflect their original terroir. The wines undergo gentle vinification, with natural clarification and no filtration for barrel-aged cuvées.
