GRAPEVINE WINE BROKERS

J&J Archambaud

Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, France

J&J Archambaud

Vosne-Romanée has been a site rich in history, drama and incredible wine growing since 460AD. One that has survived the thick of the French Revolution, phylloxera, WWII and continued to be one of the most prized communes in the world. This is, of course, in part due to the terroir that produces some of the highest quality fruit known to mankind. On top of that, the winemakers here have maintained the reputation of taking some of the greatest care in their vinification processes and the wines are known to be some of the longest lived of Burgundy. It is what some may call, a wine making vortex.

The story of J&J Archambaud begins with Suzette Sirugue falling in love with Francois Gerbet at the end of World War II. This is the true tale of the magical wines that were born of the romance between a Vosne-Romanée native girl from a vigneron family and one of the heroic liberators of her village.

In 1946, the original family estate, “Francois Gerbet” was created, beginning with their family’s vineyards of over 100 years.

Over the next 60 years the family continued to grow their estate. They first planted in the climat “les Réas” which is their largest Vosne-Romanée parcel. It lies between Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Additionally, they planted in the climat “Au Defoi”, which is located in Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits, right above Nuits-Saint-Georges.

In 2004, Francois daughter named the estate J&J Archambaud after her two sons Jean- Philippe and Jean- Christophe. Its location in Vosne-Romanée is nicknamed, “the pearl of the Côte.” As the name suggests, it is one of the most prestigious wine villages in the Côtes de Nuits.

Today, J&J Archambaud owns and farms more than 5 hectares in Echezeaux Grand Cru, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru “Les Petits Monts”,

Vosne Romanée “Aux Réas”, Vosne-Romanée and Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits— all world renowned appellations.

As their mother had hoped, her two son’s eventually took over operating the estate. In an effort to take the best care of their mythical terroirs, they made the decision to convert to organic farming in 2013.

The first certified organic vintage was 2019 and since, all vineyards have reached full organic certification by ECOCERT. They also practice biodynamic principles with the goal to achieve Demeter biodynamic certification soon.

They adapt their vinification methods based on each
vintage, plot of land or climat. However, their overall method is to vinify with 5% to 25% whole cluster and age the wine for 14 to 18 months in 10% to 25% new oak barrels.
