Domaine Raphaël Chopin is a distinguished winery located in the Beaujolais region of France, with vineyards spanning approximately 5 hectares across Morgon, Régnié, and Beaujolais Villages. The estate is a blend of history and modernity, where young vines planted in March 1989 thrive alongside gnarled old vines dating back to 1905. Raphaël Chopin, after gaining winemaking experience in Australia, returned to rejuvenate his great-grandfather’s winery. He employs cold fermentation techniques, learned from his early mentors, to produce wines of exceptional roundness and generosity.
The vineyards are meticulously managed to respect the unique terroir of each site. For Beaujolais-Villages La Savoye, the vines are planted on south-facing semi-hillsides with clay-limestone soils; in Morgon, the vines grow in schist and ancient eruptive rocks; and in Régnié, the vines are rooted in pink granite. These diverse terroirs, coupled with modest yields averaging 50 hectoliters per hectare (and dropping to 35 hl/ha in some years), contribute to the concentration and character of the wines.
Gamay, the iconic grape of the Beaujolais region, is the sole variety cultivated at Domaine Raphaël Chopin. It is through this grape, and the inimitable soils and climate of their terroirs, that the generosity of their wines is fully expressed. The estate maintains a strong connection with its customers, 70% of whom are private individuals, and welcomes visitors year-round for tastings, vineyard tours, and cellar visits.
