Domaine des Aubuisières is located in Vouvray, a historic wine region in the Loire Valley, France. The estate’s story began with Bernard Fouquet, who transformed the few small plots of vines he inherited from his father into a thriving winery.
The vineyards of Domaine des Aubuisières consist of two classic Vouvray terroirs: limestone and flint (silex). Some plots are rich in flint fragments, while others are characterized by limestone mixed with clay. These distinct soil types contribute to the complexity and unique character of the wines.
In 2021, Bernard retired and passed the reins to Charles Lesaffre, the grandson of Gérald Bruley des Varannes, from whom Bernard’s father had acquired his initial vineyards.
Domaine des Aubuisières covers 33 hectares of prime Vouvray terroirs, with 75% of the vineyards on clay-limestone hillsides and 25% on clay-siliceous soils. The estate is committed to biodiversity and sustainable practices, with permanent grass cover between the vine rows and regulated mowing to promote the development of wildlife.
Chenin Blanc, also known as Pineau de Loire, is the noble grape variety grown at Domaine des Aubuisières. It showcases its unique character through still, sparkling, and sweet white wines. Chenin Blanc wines from Vouvray are known for their acidity, complex aromas of citrus fruits, white fruits, and honey.
The winery employs a variety of winemaking techniques, including aging in oak barrels and sandstone amphorae, to fully express the terroir and produce wines of finesse and complexity.
