Domaine Begue-Mathiot is a family estate located less than 3km west of the town center of Chablis in the renowned Chablis appellation of Burgundy. Founded by Joël Begue, an experienced viticultural contract worker, in the 1980s, the estate started with 3 hectares of vineyards. Joël and his wife Maryse Mathiot began marketing their first bottles in 1985 and officially established Domaine Begue-Mathiot in 1990.
Over the years, they expanded their vineyard holdings to 12 hectares, including Premier Cru parcels on both banks of the Serein river. In 2005, their daughter Guylhaine, an oenologist, joined the estate and became a partner in 2008. Sadly, Joël passed away the same year, but Maryse and Guylhaine continued the family venture with dedication and unity.
With vine ages ranging from 20 to 70 years, Domaine Begue-Mathiot follows a meticulous winemaking process that highlights the unique characteristics of each plot. The wines are vinified using stainless steel tanks, with no oak influence. After direct pressing and settling, the wines undergo natural alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, followed by aging on the lees for 10 months before bottling.
