Domaine Bachey-Legros, situated in the Côte de Beaune region in Santenay, boasts a rich family history spanning six generations since the 19th century. Their vineyards’ essence lies in the “vieilles vignes” or old vines, which produce low yields, deeply-rooted grapes, and concentrated flavors, resulting in top-quality wines that strike a perfect balance between power and elegance, truly expressing their terroir.
The family’s legacy and philosophy revolve around respect for the vines, nature, and the achievements of previous generations. With 18 hectares of prime vineyards in Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Les Maranges, their best sites yield exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, particularly those vines planted between 1935 and 1955, which have been lovingly nurtured over the decades.
The winemaking approach focuses on respecting the natural life cycle of the vine, allowing it to live, produce fruit, and eventually perish in the most natural way possible. The winery’s current generation, Lénaïc and Samuel, passionately continues the family tradition with the same dedication and determination.
The whites, made from 100% Chardonnay, undergo gentle pressing and fermentation at low temperatures in barrels, with particular focus on the quality of the lees, which contribute to the wine’s roundness and complexity. The reds, made from 100% Pinot Noir, are naturally powerful, but the vinification style prioritizes roundness and purity of fruit with gentle extraction.
