Château de la Greffière is a historic winery located in La Roche Vineuse, in the Mâcon region of southern Burgundy. With a rich heritage dating back to 1585, the estate’s old wine fermenting cellar now serves as a museum, reflecting its longstanding involvement in winemaking.
In 1924, the Greuzard family acquired the vineyard and embarked on a journey of restoration and excellence. For four generations, their dedication to winemaking has resulted in wines with distinctive aromas and rich expressions. Xavier Greuzard, the current head, took over the reins from his mother in 2012 and has since greatly increased the château’s area, from 35 to 50 hectares.
Situated in a hilly landscape, the vineyard enjoys a unique terroir, allowing them to cultivate four Burgundy grape varieties: Chardonnay and Aligoté for white wines, and Pinot Noir and Gamay for red wines. These grapes are thoughtfully chosen to produce quality wines that reflect the essence of the local soil.
Château de la Greffière offers an impressive array of eight appellations, each showcasing the characteristics of their grape varieties and the elegance of the region. Through traditional tillage methods, the estate prioritizes letting the land express itself, striking the perfect balance between soil, vines, and human craftsmanship.
