The Beaufort family has been producing wine in the Champagne region since the 16th century. Marcellin Beaufort gained recognition in the early 1900s for his Bouzy still wines, and in 1929, he and his son Herbert began bottling Champagne wines. Today, the tradition is carried on by Herbert’s son Henri and grandsons Hugues and Ludovic.
The family owns 13 hectares of vineyards, with 10 hectares dedicated to Pinot Noir and 3 hectares to Chardonnay. The majority of their vineyards, covering 7 hectares, are located in the prestigious Grand Cru village of Bouzy, where some of the vines are as old as 70 years. The remaining 6 hectares are divided among other renowned Grand Crus such as Ambonnay, Tour sur Marne, and Verzenay, as well as 1er Crus Mareuil and Trépail.
The Beaufort winery focuses on minimal intervention in winemaking, blocking malolactic fermentation and maintaining low dosage, resulting in wines that tend to be close to Extra Brut. Their Champagnes, crafted from the exceptional terroir of the region, showcase the distinct character of the local grape varieties. The Beaufort family’s dedication to quality and their long-standing heritage contribute to the production of remarkable wines that reflect the rich tradition of Champagne winemaking.
