Lancelot Courtois is owned by Jean-Paul Lancelot and located in the unique Champagne region of France. With a down-to-earth demeanor that belies his exceptional expertise, Jean-Paul cultivates 4 hectares of vineyards in the esteemed Grand Cru villages of Cramant, Avize, Oger, and Chouilly.
The winery’s vineyards boast old vines, with their two oldest sites forming the backbone of their Cuvée Traditionelle. One parcel, “Les Monts Chenevaux,” planted in 1953 in Oger, and the other, “Les Monts Aigous,” planted in 1957 in Grand Cru Chouilly, adjoins one of Moët’s renowned Dom Pérignon vineyards. These vines, aptly named “Vieilles Vignes” (Old Vines), contribute to the richness and complexity of the wines.
In addition to these exceptional vineyards, Lancelot Courtois sources grapes from their remaining plots in the four villages, crafting the cuvée known as “La Croisée des Terroirs” (Crossing of the Terroirs). It’s worth noting that Jean-Paul’s yields are intentionally kept remarkably low, ensuring the utmost quality in their Champagnes.
Completing the traditional picture, Sylvie, Jean-Paul’s wife, expertly manages the business side of the winery. Together, they uphold the legacy of Lancelot Courtois, producing outstanding Champagnes that showcase the unique terroir and Grand Cru status of the region.
