Domaine Pierre Morin, located in Bué, one of the most prestigious villages in the Sancerre region, has seen remarkable growth under the guidance of Gérard Morin and his son Pierre. The estate spans nine hectares, with seven dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc and two to Pinot Noir, planted on renowned crus such as Les Châteaux and Crépon.
Pierre Morin, influenced by his experiences in Australia and at Domaine Dujac, brings a cosmopolitan approach to winemaking, particularly focusing on the expressive potential of Pinot Noir. The vineyards, situated on the steep and calcareous slopes surrounding Bué, yield rich and aromatic Sancerre wines, as well as deep and intense reds.
The emphasis is on low yields and meticulous manual harvesting. Pierre implements spring de-budding and selective harvesting to maintain low yields of around 40 hl/ha. The wines are fermented separately in temperature-controlled steel vats, and extended lees aging is practiced to enhance texture and terroir expression.
The Morin’s portfolio includes the classic Sancerre, sourced primarily from Bué’s clay-limestone and gravelly topsoil vineyards, displaying lean and superb Sancerre characteristics. The Chêne Marchand cuvée originates from the finest plots within Bué, offering a richer and more robust profile. The flagship wine, Ovide, crafted from 50-year-old vines on gravelly limestone soils, showcases Sauvignon Blanc at its stunning best. Production of the latter two cuvées is extremely limited, reaching only around 200 cases in an average year.
