GRAPEVINE WINE BROKERS

Weingut Aigner

Representing the ninth  generation of wine growers who have for over 200 years produced world-famous cuvées such as “Sandgrube” and “Weinzierlberg”, Wolfgang Aigner continues his family’s tradition of creating complex, fruity and earthy wines.

Sandgrube was first mentioned in archives dating to 1001 AD. It comprises the sloping, terraced sites which extend east from the town center to Rohrendorf. Even in medieval times, people understood the soil to be perfect for growing particularly ample and spicy Grüner Veltliner. As far back as 1135 AD, the name “Weinzierlpersch” can be found in archives of the time.

The ground here consists of a mixture of gravel from the Danube and prehistoric rock which is covered by a layer of loess, about 1.5 meters thick.

Wolfgang considers these sites to be the most prized treasure of the Aigner Estate and as such, for him, it is an on-going labor of love to produce these wonderful wines.
